Propaganda is the use of dissemination of information such as facts, arguments, rumors, half-truths, or lies to influence and take control of the public opinion. It means that propaganda aims to manipulate people thought and restrict opinion or whatever that can threaten the governments political purpose. Since it was used massively by the US, Japan, German and so on in WW II.
Propaganda back then was formed like a poster and state central, it means that made by government for its people (one way communication). It usually publish to the people directly or even by media such radio or television. But since propaganda has so many impact on people behavior and thinking, it becomes dangerous.
Recently by the use of social media, propaganda has emerged at any kind. Not only poster, even a news or article that we read can be found a propaganda. Propaganda in the 21st century becomes more dangerous since the world has been on globalization. It very dangerous, here is why:
Propaganda undermines democracy, because propaganda has so much controlled people think and behavior, in another word restricting the freedom of the people. It was the opposite of democracy, democracy stands on liberal rights such as freedom of thinking. It prevents people from thinking clearly and logically.
Once you have control of one person to two person to a group of people, simply you can control them. Imagine when a government propaganda control the entire country, the next Word War would eventually be happened again. The regime can order them to do anything regime want and they will do it. The regime tries to monopolize the benefits for itself all opportunities that has been achieved with propaganda.
Propaganda make the people think that they have greater moral authority than any other human race. So, anyone besides them were considering less moral authority. This is what exactly happened back then in the WW II. When people think they have greater moral authority than any other human being, they could, without hesitation kill people.
So, in the end propaganda was very dangerous and can damage every part of our action and think. We must think liberally, never let anyone control your action and think or any other word control your freedom. Of course what i mean here is not freedom without limitation, we have a law which have to obey.
